Bernard Bragg uses what he calls Modern ASL (mixed), as opposed to Traditional ASL (pure), but more importantly, observe his use of ASL features including classifers, placement, non-manuals (facial expression) and the like.  He performs while telling a story.  In other words, he signs ‘from the heart’….all of these elements combined together makes for interesting storytelling.  The question of using Modern ASL doesn’t matter.  What matters the most is how he incorporates ASL features into his signing, which is key to effective storytelling.
